Boone Mayor Loretta Clawson stands beside two solar panels on the roof of Boone Fire Station #2 on State Farm Road.The solar panel collectors are part of a solar water heater project for the building which is used to wash the firefighter’s uniforms and equipment. The solar project coincides with the conversion of the building’s fuel source from propane to natural gas which also serves as the back-up power source for the solar-powered hot water heater.  According to Fire Chief Jimmy Isaacs, the solar project has resulted in cost-savings for the department during the past year.  The solar project was approved by the Town Council in 2009 and was fully implemented in 2010.  Mayor Clawson stated that she is pleased that the Town of Boone continues to work on green initiatives.
